About the Race: The Sharon Classic Road Race, a 23-year tradition in Sharon, CT combines small-town charm with big race amenities. What began as a small but meaningful fundraiser for the Sharon Day Care Center has evolved into a significant early spring race in the Northwest Corner. It is also a very successful fundraiser.

In recent years we have added professional timing services, cash prizes ($50 for 1st male/female in each age division), babysitting services, free massages and terrific food. The entire community joins in the fun with representatives from the Volunteer Fire Department, Sharon Audubon Society, area banks and Sharon Center School. We also have a Silent Auction with fabulous items for bidding, such as artwork from town artists, restaurant gift certificates and ski lift passes.

The race course is a beautiful route through town and rural sections of Sharon. The “lollipop” route has gently rolling hills with one moderately challenging hill in the 4th mile. We have water stations and timers along the course. It is one of the most enjoyable courses to run in the Northwest Corner. The Sharon Classic is a great way to start the racing season and it is an excellent warm-up for the larger races in the area.

About the SDCC: The Sharon Day Care Center, a non-profit organization located in Sharon, Connecticut, was founded in 1985 and is dedicated to top quality day care for community children, 3 to 9 years of age. It currently operates in the lower level of the Sharon Center School building. The Sharon Day Care Center is a licensed and nationally accredited program with a Board of Directors, Executive Director and a staff of six.

Funds from the Sharon Classic assist in balancing the Center’s operating budget. It allows the Board of Directors to offer scholarship assistance, support staff development, purchase supplies and materials that enhance the children’s experience at Sharon Day Care, and offer benefits to our employees.
